Keep Network overview

Keep Network is an encryption protocol for Ethereum smart contracts. It will enable miners to execute smart contract code without knowing what exactly they are calculating.

A simple use case for this product: A group of people can share their salary and together calculate the average salary of the group. Each member can find out their relative position in the group, but they will not know anything about the specific salaries of other members.

The Keep protocol consists of five technologies:

All data operations will take place outside the blockchain so as not to load the network. Only hashes of the results of calculations over smart contracts will be written to the blockchain. As part of this review, we will not delve into the technology in more detail, but will go straight to the competitors of the project.

Enigma focuses on application development, while Keep focuses on encryption technology and overall infrastructure. Technically, they are distinguished by the fact that Keep cut the sMPC protocol and connected it with zk-proof, while Enigma sMPC is full-fledged and, as the Keep founders say, is susceptible to Sybil attacks.

By the way, Enigma raised $ 45 million on ICO in 2017, and the main network was launched only in February 2020. In the same month, the SEC forced them to return their investments and register their tokens as a security. This penalty can affect the development of Enigma, which in turn gives Keep chances to occupy the niche of private smart contracts earlier.

NuCypher also differs from Keep Network in product focus, but both use homomorphic encryption to anonymize smart contracts. NuCypher handles file key management, and Keep handles private computations.

Founders

From 2006 to 2010, they studied together at the Georgia Institute for bachelor’s degrees in programmers.
From 2010 to 2013, we developed Scholr.ly, a service for finding scientists and research. Service developments remained on github.

Since 2014, they have been working on the Fold mobile application, with which you can buy discount cards of various services for bitcoins. Judging by the site’s statistics, there are about 3,000 US visitors a day. Although it is unpopular in the markets.

In 2014, they made Cardforcoin, a pawnshop of discount cards that can be exchanged for bitcoins. But a year later, the project was closed.

Since 2018, they have been working on the Thesis product studio. But her portfolio contains only Keep Network and Fold, and the team of the projects is the same with the studio.

Matt has been active on github since 2011, mostly in private repositories. I didn’t upload anything popular from my own repositories, except for what was done within the Scholr.ly search engine, for example, integrating Django into the Neo4j database. And Corbin Pon is inactive on github.

Antonio Salazar Cardozo — Head of Engineering. Graduate of the same university as the founders. For five years he was the chief developer, and then the director of engineering at a company from the Georgia Institute — Inquus Corporation — where he developed a social network for students. For five years he was a senior programmer and then a team lead at Elemica (logistics software). He has been active on github since 2010. Worked a lot on projects Vico (editor for developers) and Lift (web framework). Published more than 30 of his own developments, for example the most popular: a plugin for improving forms in Rails; plugin for managing the size and format of JS and CSS files.

Piotr Dyraga is a tech lead. In Linkedin he indicates medium-sized IT companies, experience is confirmed by recommendations from colleagues, in general he worked as a programmer for about nine years. Inactive on github.

Promethea Raschke is a protocol architect. There is little information on it on the network, except that in 2017 she led a blockchain project called Liminal. Inactive on github, but previously published the Lithium cryptographic library.

Sloan Thompson — Chief Devops. He worked as a devops for six years, and then rose to the team lead at the software company Elemica. Inactive on github.

Nik Grinkevich is a developer. As a contract web developer, he has participated in dozens of short-term projects. He has been active on github since 2017, but only in private repositories.

Jakub Nowakowski is a developer. For more than seven years he worked as a tester of network and banking software. Has been active on github since 2018, mostly in private repositories. Published templates and cheat sheets for Kubernetes; and the Kubernetes rapid deployment cluster.

Nicholas Evans is a developer. He is inactive on github, there is no information about him on the network.

Dmitry Paremski is a developer. Eight years of experience as a software developer. Inactive on github.

Liam Zebedee is a developer. Four years of experience. He has been active on github since 2013. He published his own projects: metric — an application for ToDo metrics; patterns for Solidity; Jekyll plugin to facilitate simple multilingual sites.

Erin Ng is a developer. Nine years of experience, including one year as a consultant at Microsoft and Apple. Active on github since 2017, but in private repositories.

Laura Wallendal — Project Growth Leader;
Michael Gluzman — Head of Design;
Prashanth Irudayaraj — scientific advisor;
Eliza Petrovska — Community Manager;
Jarrell James is a strategy manager.
