Why you should become one strong mother

There was a point in my life, not that long ago, when my ultimate goal in the gym was to become strong as f… fu… I’ll just say fudge for decency’s sake (There was also a point, not that long ago, when I would actually use the “F” word, but that’s a different story). I would spend hours in the gym, several days a week, just getting crazy strong. It. Was. Awesome.

Now flash forward several years, and add on several more kids to my brood, which totals 4, and there doesn’t seem to be time in the day nor energy left in my tank to hit the weights so hard. In fact, I quit my regular gym and instead set up a decent little basement gym with just the right about of iron for me and plastic ride-on cars for my kids. Not ideal, but it gets the job done now, at this point.

While I am not longer training like a raging mad woman in the gym or competing on weekends in Strongman contests or powerlifting, I am still reaping the benefits of being slightly above average when it comes to strength levels among regular mamas. I don’t mean to sound like I think highly of myself, because I really don’t; though my self-confidence has grown by becoming a mother. Its just something I’ve noticed when working out around other women or completing mundane tasks like carrying grocery bags or hauling tree stumps to help construct a new playground at preschool.

Here is why you should get stronger, whether you want to become a mom, are a new mom, are thinking of having more children or are just a regular gal with illusions of super-feminine strength.

Lifting weights is one of my most favorite things to do in the whole wide world. I sacrifice other things in order to make time to lift. And though I don’t lift as hard or as often as I’d like, I know that I am a better mother for doing it when I can.

Make time for yourself, meet some new friends and get strong as a mother.
