Mentorship

There is a concept of “Murshid’’ in Sufism. The term „spiritual guide‟, known as „Murshid‟ is closely associated with the spiritual movement of Sufism. Murshid is, commonly recognized as a guide, a leader, an instructor, a teacher or a person under whose supervision and guidance a seeker Salik undertakes his journey to the path of Salook. The purpose of going to the Murshid is to attain Allah’s pleasure, to escape evil, to seek medication for a sick heart and a true friend for an estranged heart; in brief, it is a spiritual Hijrah (migration).

Same is the role of mentorship in our professional, social and personal lives. Mentoring is important, not only because of the knowledge and skills students can learn from mentors but also because mentoring provides professional socialization and personal support to facilitate success in graduate school and beyond. Quality mentoring greatly enhances students’ chances for success. Research shows that students who experience good mentoring also have a greater chance of securing academic tenure-track positions or greater career advancement potential in administration or sectors outside the university.

I met Ch. Irfan last year accidentally but the first impression of him was such a great experience for me that I asked him for contact and tried to make contact weekly. Finally, I was able to sit with him and tried to put my all unresolved questions and that was satisfying for me. He was a psychologist and nowadays doing some sort of trading in different countries. I used to sit with him regularly and take every possible advantage of his company.

I will strongly suggest that if you want to find a destination try to find a person who is already at that destination so that he could guide you to reach success.
