The Courage To Dream

There are two ways to bring your child up. One way is to teach them through fear. Tell them the harms of doing things a certain way. Tell them why they should not do what they are doing? Fear has been an inseparable part of our psyche. It is part of our animal instinct. Fear protects us and prevents us from risking our lives. This is the reason why most animals and even human beings can be trained to do things certain way by incorporating fear.

The problem with fear as a method of upbringing is that it is restrictive. The child is growing up looking for things it should not do and the way it should not be. This prevents the child from thinking or exploring fully. The child my adhere to simple and safe ways of living and never go beyond the comfort zone.

The other way to bring your child up is through love. The child should be taught to understand what feels best. Make your child understand there are different possibilities but he should choose what feels the best. He should know that he may make the wrong choices and it is ok. He must just know how to understand what does not feel good and correct his choices accordingly.

The good part about teaching through love is that the child has endless opportunities throughout life to love and explore. On the flip side, the child may learn and understand beyond what you can teach. Some parents may prefer fear as a teaching method because of this very reason. Fear will permit the parents to have control over the child’s decisions throughout life.

Love gives the person the courage to dream. That courage is necessary for us to face challenges and to live to our fullest. Time and again, we come across people who have a different story in the same world. The difference in their lives is caused by love. The love not just for others but also for themselves. They do not feel scared to try new things. They do not rebuke their own out of the box ideas. They give things and people a chance. That changes everything for them!
