When I was Rejected in an interview for the position of Digital Marketing Head!!

Before I started my business, I was a working professional. During an interview for the position of “Digital Marketing Head”, I easily cleared out the first three rounds with HR, marketing Manager and one more person. In my third round, person interviewing me nearly finalized me for the post and I bet he really wants me to be on board. He told me that my selection would be based on the upcoming final round in which I had to face CEO of the company. He also told me that they had hired about 20 people for this post in the past but every time they found them incapable to perform the job. It’s easy to crack an interview but it’s difficult to show performance if someone is inexperienced.

In my final round, CEO of the company was already in defensive mode. She had already made a few presumptions about me. Although I was answering all her questions, she was not looking satisfied. Many a times she mentioned that it is easy to answer all these questions but I don’t know how to trust you. She was looking very confused. Her confidence and trust in digital marketers were badly shattered. I was surprised that even after 2 years of time they are still looking for one.

Now a days, digital marketing institutes and courses are mushrooming here and there. People with just couple of months of learning present themselves as experts. It is indeed difficult for a business to find a needle in the haystack….

I always advocate quality over quantity. Never go by prices blindly. Business owners need to keep in mind that ultimately, they would be responsible for any SEO work performed on their site. If god forbid something bad happened with the site then they will be the one who suffer. One should take decision and assign a project after due diligence. They should discuss the specific tactics to be used, before entering into an agreement.

As the old adage goes “Jitna Gur daloge utna Meetha” (The deeper the well, the sweeter the water). An experienced person always charges more as it is not for the amount of work he/she is going to perform but for his experience which he\she has earned over the years…
