Life stumbles on us

down the red dirt road
an abandoned dead horse

a void between the open ribs
new entrance to Hades

yellow dentition
blackened enamel edges
ad-hoc tombstones
where no one grieves

I know no prayers
for this horse,
I write a poem
to mark our loss.
